I read it long ago and knew it was entertaining – in other words, the perfect holiday book! What’s it about? The protagonist Uncle Oswald is a rogue who loves fine food, wine and the ladies. He gets involved in many exciting and outlandish adventures. Did you buy or borrow the book? I borrowed the book from my sister. Has it lived up to your expectations? Absolutely! With all the crazy stunts Oswald gets involved in you can’t go wrong. The book inspires an enthusi - asm and passion for travel. Would you recommend it to others? Definitely – especially as a holiday read. Bus from Toowong to Brisbane city, Qld Geoff, 42 from Toowong What are you reading? The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Why that book? I’ve seen it on the bestseller lists for so long, I thought I had to find out why for myself. What’s it about? It’s a thriller/mystery involving a murder of the curator at the Louvre. Has it lived up to your expectations? So far it’s got me going. It’s certainly com - pelling. Would you recommend it to others? Yes I would based on what I’ve read so far. Ferry from Circular Quay to Manly, Sydney Elaine from Whangarei, New Zealand What are you reading? Well I’m just finishing How Green Was My Valley written in 1938 by Richard Llewellyn. Why that book? It was recommended to me by Welsh friends who understood my love of Wales and I can remember my mother loving the book too. What is it about? It’s about mining families in the valleys in Wales and how their lives are so entwined with each others. Did you buy or borrow the book? I borrowed it from my friends. Has it lived up to your expectations? Yes. I love the way the Welsh language comes through and I love reading about the hardships of the miners and their families. Would you recommend it to others? Yes because I am so pleased it was recom - mended to me. Plane from Adelaide to Melbourne, Vic Sarah, 25 from Glenelg What are you reading? Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married by Marian Keyes. Why that book? My friend leant it to me. What’s it about? It’s about Lucy whose tarot cards say she will be married within a year. It’s lots of fun. Has it lived up to your expectations? It’s a great read. I’m enjoying it very much. Would you recommend it to others? Sure. Train from Blacktown to Sydney city, NSW Connie, 32 from Blacktown What are you reading? Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss. Why that book? Itwasgiventomebymymumwhoisa teacher. She is always trying to explain to me where the apostrophes go! I can never seem to get it. What’s it about? Punctuation! My downfall. Has it lived up to your expectations? I groaned when she gave it to me but it’s actually very readable. Would you recommend it to others? Grass for His Pillow by Lian Hearn. Why that book? Its the sequel to the first book. goodreading 17 What’s it about? It’s a fantasy set in a world very much like ancient Japan, with Japanese warlords and samurai. Has it lived up to your expectations? Yes. Would to recommend it to others? Yes.
