Why that book? ve seen the ilms and I just decided I wanted o read the book too. . What’s it about? It’s a bit complicated to say in a few words. It’s about a young man who is given what he thinks is a magical ring, only to dis- cover it’s a source of evil power. He has to destroy the ring before its true owner recovers it. I needed something to read on the train and I borrowed this from my flatmate. He said it was good. What’s it about? It starts off in the near future where ships from various countries’ navies are on manoeuvres when something goes wrong and they are all transported back in time to the Pacific in 1942 – right into the middle of the Battle for Midway. I’m a big fan of his books – I’ve read every one. Did you buy or borrow it? I bought it. What’s it about? It’s about a group of people who each decide to commit suicide by jumping off the top of a building on New Years’ Eve. Has it lived up to your expecta- tions? I have to say I’m not enjoying it as much as his other books. I’m finding it a little depressing, but I’m perse- vering, hoping he gets back on track. Would you recommend it to others? Not sure about that yet. Bus from Sydney city to Watson’s Bay, NSW Prudence from Vaucluse What are you reading? A Murder is Announced by Agatha Christie. Why that book? I saw a couple of the ‘Miss Marple’ stories on TV recently, but I didn’t see them all. They put me in the mood for reading some Agatha Christie. Did you buy or borrow it? I bought it. What’s it about? Miss Marple is visiting her godchild who lives in a small village, and while she’s there a murder takes place - a murder that had been announced in an ad in the local paper. All the village witnessed the murder, but of course Miss Marple is suspicious. Has it lived up to your expectations? So far it has. Would you recommend it to others? If you like crime novels, Agatha Christie style, yes, I would.
