I will later start at the beginning for an in-depth read, but before I begin I am already excited about reading it. My husband and I have just booked our long-awaited trip to London, the UK and Paris next May and I was delighted to see you are doing a feature on London in your new travel series and I had already determined to read up on the places we would be visiting.Your timing is perfect. I would be interested to know how much other readers are influenced by the cover illustrations on books. The old adage says 'Never judge a book by its cover', but I think the cover illustration at times could seriously affect a book's appeal. I would be interested to know about the process of creating book covers. Is it a prerequisite for the illustrator to have read the book or do they just get a brief description of the story? Has a cover been responsible for a poor perfor mance despite a commendable story? Thanks for all the great articles. I just love this magazine. Priscilla Myles,Yagoona NSW Hi there I love reading books and writing them as well. Every few hours I would pull a big, beaming face and then say, 'I've got an idea for a story!' Then I would write my heart out. In 2009 when I was in Year 4, I was moved up into theYear 5 O C (Opportunity Class) writing group. Though I am very dedicated to my writing I have two soul-eating problems: a. I sometimes write a small amount of a story and then I never finish because I'm not in the mood for that type of genre anymore so I have a whole heap of pages tor n out from books that I wrote in and partially blank pages hidden all around my room. b. I want to be known as an author before I get to the age when people just think of me as 'just another person who wrote a book'.Young people who write amazing stories (I hope I don't sound big- headed), get more attention. I know this probably won't help anything but it's good to know I can let it all out to people who understand. Thanks, Jasmin, aged 10, Luddenham NSW Dear Rowena I have been a keen reader of your magazine for three years now and have been sending subscriptions to friends and family overseas, who all love it and share it with their local book clubs, as far afield as Edinburgh and Toronto. In the last week I have bought a Kindle e-reader device, and think it is wonderful, but I would rather support Australian booksellers than the Amazon conglomerate. I have looked at the Amazon 'Editor's Choice' suggestions and, while I am sure these are fine publications, they do not reflect an Australian literary sensibility. I was discussing this in the local independent bookshop this mor ning and was told the Australian Booksellers' Association is working on an e-book marketing scheme, to publish for e-reading devices, which I am sure will occupy an ever-increasing portion of the book market. I am very pleased to hear this and would love to hear the opinion of other readers, and any suggestions of e-reading material, as I find the 320 000 titles in the Amazon e-reading range a bit daunting! The advantage of Amazon (I hope) is that I will be able to search out unavailable titles and buy them as e-books. The problem is the loss of income for my local bookstore. Yours sincerely Elizabeth Hyde,Wahroonga NSW Dear gr I am a new writer and enjoying it heaps. I would like to let you know that I enjoy your magazine, and the letters printed therein. Also the stories are an inspiration to a new writer, just setting out. I belong to a creative writing group at U3A Bair nsdale. I love writing fiction and have begun to produce some poetry also; never before imagining that I could do what I am doing and loving it so much. Thanks for your great magazine -- it is a Good Read. Judy Ward, Bairnsdale Vic
