I’m only up to page 73 but there’s been a murder and presumably this is a who- dunnit and why did they do it. Did you buy or borrow it? Bought it. Has it lived up to your expectations? Yes. Salamanca by John Higgins y that ok? as browsing a bookshop Devonport d the oryline utlined in he blurb ppealed to me. What’s it about? on, a young Spanish priest with a passion for science falls in love with a sickly 18-year-old girl and endeavours to help her, with assistance from his bishop. Has it lived up to your expectations? Pretty much. Would you recommend it to others? I think so. Train from Werris Creek to Sydney John, from Werris Creek What are you reading? 1932 by Gerald Stone Why that book? I was having lunch with someone who has written a book about Francis De Groot, who slashed the ribbon at the Sydney Harbour Bridge opening in 1932 before Jack Lang had a chance, and it got me thinking about that period. What’s it about? All the major events of that year in Sydney: the opening of the harbour bridge, the dis- missal of Lang, the entry of the new guard. Has it lived up to your expectations? It’s a very interesting and thrilling read. It’s not good history, but it’s riveting. Would you recommend it to others? Oh yes. I’ve already recommended it to my friends. Charlotte Gray by Sebastian Faulks Why that book? dmirer of Cate Blanchett and I enjoyed the film, and I’m a fan of Nancy Wake. So I wanted to read the book, and my daughter had a copy so I borrowed it. What’s it about? The French resistance during World War II and the activities of a Scottish woman fighting with them.
