Good Reading : September 2009
USEFUL INFORMATION, PRODUCTS AND SERVICES Have you written a kids’ book? You need your manuscript assessed! Create a Kids’ Book assesses manuscripts written for children – toddlers to adolescents. Dr Virginia Lowe or one of her experienced and qualified assessors will read your work, including both style and copy editing, and write a report of between four and ten pages. We will work on multiple drafts, and you have access to your individual assessor, to ask questions. We also help people write and illustrate for children though our regular workshops with Virginia and either an artist-tutor or a published novelist (mainly in Melbourne, but occasionally elsewhere). We offer e-courses on novel and picture book writing and illustrating. Each has ten modules with feedback from your tutor on the exercises. There is also a free monthly bulletin on writing for children and children’s literature generally. Create a Kids’ Book has been operating for thirteen years. Many books have come through us and reached publication. These are listed on the Successes page of the website. For more information, please contact Virginia on 03 9578 5689 or through the website www.createakidsbook.com.au. Virginia kept a record of everything read to her two children, and their responses, from birth to adolescence. This has been published as Stories, Pictures and Reality: Two children tell (Routledge).
