wordof mouth arts/interiors There’s a vogue for books about specific colours at the moment. Both mauve and green have received attention. Now comes Mood Indigo, for all those who would like to be daring with colour. It delves into the rich colours of blues and greens, reds and purples, browns and even greys and black. Deep colours are sometimes thought of as sombre, but Mood Indigo shows how they can be vibrant and lively. The history and effect of each colour is also explored: it is believed that being surrounded by blue can help lower blood pressure and relieve insomnia, which makes it an ideal colour for the bedroom. Also included are tips for lighting, which can create a whole different atmosphere again. After seeing the sumptuous effects that this book achieves, you’ll be inspired to paint some mood onto your walls. It looks at all different types of interiors from minimal to classical, giving you ideas on how you can achieve these styles of interior design with a range of different types of housing – from tiny homes to warehouse living. Although it is obviously published for the English market, there is very little that does not translate to our own style of urban living. Towards the back of the book Urban Chic produces room sets, where you can see how they have created a bedroom in the opulent period style, a bathroom in industrial chic and other looks. Lastly there are tips on what to do with those items that you collect. Whatever your collecting weakness is, you may pick up an idea on how to make it a feature in your home. Reviewed by Rowena Cseh
